Tom Lawless, the 2005 United States Rally Champion, with the Irish codriver Brian Sharkey (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9), emerged as the winners of the International Rally New York 2009, a two-day test where the result was in doubt until almost the final mile.

Rally New York is taking place this weekend, October 23rd – 24th, 2009 in the Southern Catskill Mountains of New York (about 90 miles northwest of New York City).

There are several New England connections including NEFR’s own John Buffum co-driving for Seamus Burke, Southern New Hampshire’s Paul Ferreira competing with co-driver Oscar Simsek, and Northern New Hampshire’s Erika Detota co-driving for Jason Smith. In addition, several Team O’Neil alums will be competing including Matt Przybysz with his wife and co-driver Kristen Przybysz, Michael Reilly with co-driver Josh Benthien, and Ken Block with co-driver Alex Gelsomino.
